Beirut Prepares for Heatwave: Instructions from the Governor

The Public Relations Department of Beirut Municipality reported that "the Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, issued a circular to the Fire Brigade and Guards, as well as all municipal departments, stating: 'Due to the severe heatwave affecting the world and all Lebanese cities, especially Beirut, and the rising fire risk index in the coming days, particularly in Beirut's public gardens, especially in the Beirut Forest and the horse racing ground, the following is requested:

- Fire Brigade of Beirut: Fully activate all units and personnel along with equipment for immediate intervention to combat any fires. Ensure the availability of water at designated points for refueling tanks; for this purpose, communicate with the Engineering Department for necessary assistance if needed.

- Public Cleaning Department: Fully mobilize all equipment and coordinate with the contractor for street cleaning and solid waste collection in Beirut to immediately remove any accumulated waste from containers and roads.

- Engineering Department / Parks Division: Fully prepare in coordination with Beirut Municipality contractors to remove dry grass from public gardens and roads and public squares wherever necessary to reduce the risk of fires.

- Classified Institutions Department: Immediate inspections on locations where hazardous and flammable materials are stored, especially in fuel stations, warehouses, and generator locations, ensuring compliance with public safety requirements, particularly regarding fire prevention and immediate intervention measures (such as the availability of fire extinguishers and early warning devices).

- Beirut City Guards: Provide necessary assistance and ensure all personnel are ready to respond to any distress call. Citizens and public garden visitors should be warned to act responsibly towards the environment and public safety and to report any potential fire risks immediately.'"
