Global Pink Paint Shortage Due to a Famous Character

The new "Barbie" film directed by American filmmaker Greta Gerwig required large quantities of pink paint during the construction of the set, leading to a global shortage of supplies of this specific paint color. In an interview with "Architectural Digest," Gerwig and the film's production designer, Sarah Greenwood, discussed building "Barbie Land," which fully relied on light pink. Greenwood stated, "The film caused a global shortage of pink paint; the color has run out worldwide." A spokesperson for paint company Rosco confirmed that #Barbie caused an international pink paint shortage: "They did clean us out." Gerwig emphasized that "the color pink gives an aesthetic to the film," noting that she wanted "the pinks to be very bright. I don’t want to forget what made me love Barbie when I was a little girl." Lauren Proud, the global marketing vice president at Rosco, the company responsible for manufacturing the paint used in the film, explained that the film utilized all their available paint supplies, adding, "We gave them everything we had; they exhausted our paint stock."
