Egypt Died the Day Nasser Died

Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris sparked reactions on the platform "X," formerly known as Twitter, in response to a user claiming that "Egypt died after the death of former leader Gamal Abdel Nasser." A user commented on "X": "Egypt died the day Nasser died," according to him. Naguib Sawiris replied to the post on his official account, stating: "Egypt is bigger than any leader or president."

Sawiris's comment came amid the controversy triggered by remarks from Egyptian thinker Mustafa El-Feki regarding Nasser's policies during an appearance on the program "The Black Box" with Kuwaiti journalist Ammar Taqi, where he alleged that the late president consumed alcoholic drinks, and subsequently apologized for those statements, as reported by Egyptian media. Sawiris had previously commented on these statements saying: "If drinking (alcohol) was his only sin, we would be the first to forgive him, but torture, repression of freedoms, the losses from his wars, and the destruction of Egypt are unforgivable."
