Women's Sports in Britain Achieve Record Viewing Figures

A record number of viewers in Britain reached 46.7 million, following women's sports on television in 2023, an increase of nearly one million viewers compared to the previous record set in 2019, according to research published by the Women's Sports Agency on Tuesday. The figures, which reflect viewers who watched at least one minute of women's sports on television, showed that average viewing time increased by 16 percent to 10 hours and seven minutes per person, compared to eight hours and 44 minutes in 2022.

Tammy Parlour, the CEO of the Women's Sports Agency, stated, "The industry needs to seize these opportunities to increase awareness and participation, so we can continue to expand the audience for women's sports and reach fans wherever they are." She added, "Women's sports are attracting more younger fans, which is great news for the industry as it shows we are beginning to draw a distinctive fan base." The most-watched women's sports event on television in 2023 was the Women's World Cup final, where England lost 1-0 to Spain in Australia, accumulating 38.4 million viewing hours.
