Qatar Energy announced in a statement that it has signed two contracts for "production sharing in maritime areas 64 and 65 located off the coast of the Republic of Suriname, following its successful bid for exploration rights in these areas during the bidding round held in June 2023." It stated: "Under the contracts, Qatar Energy holds a 30% stake in the exploration rights for area 64, while Total Energies (the operator) holds 40% and Petronas holds 30%. Qatar Energy also holds a 40% stake in the exploration rights for area 65, while Shell (the operator) holds 60%." The areas 64 and 65 are located about 200 kilometers off the coast of Suriname at a depth of approximately 1500 meters.
