Morocco in the World Cup Semifinals for the First Time in Arab and African History

Morocco qualified for the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup after defeating Portugal 1-0 in the third match of the quarterfinals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The goal was scored by Morocco's Youssef En-Nesyri in the 43rd minute with a brilliant header, entering history along with his team and all Arabs.

Youssef En-Nesyri, a player for the Moroccan national team, made history in Arab football after his remarkable goal against Portugal. The Sevilla star scored his third goal in the World Cup, having previously scored against Spain in the 2018 Russia edition and netting two goals in the current edition against Canada in the group stage and Portugal in the quarterfinals.

En-Nesyri became Morocco's all-time top scorer in the World Cup with three goals. He joins the list of Arab goal scorers in the World Cup, each having three goals: Saudi duo Sami Al-Jaber and Salem Al-Dawsari, and Tunisian Wahbi Khazri.

En-Nesyri also broke his partnership with other Moroccan stars who scored two goals in the World Cup, namely Abdelrazak Khairi, Salah Bsir, and Abdeljalil Mochtar.

On the other hand, Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo matched the world record for the number of international matches played, raising his count to 196 after coming on as a substitute in the match. Ronaldo participated in the 51st minute, replacing Ruben Neves while his team was trailing 0-1, thus equaling the record set by Kuwaiti player Bader Al-Mutawa. Unfortunately for Ronaldo, he will not have the chance to play another match in Doha to set the record for the most international appearances, although he also holds the record for the most international goals with 118.
