Storm "Daniela" Washes Away Lebanese Soil.. Scientific Research Warns (Video)

Storm

Social media in Lebanon has been flooded with images and footage of the effects of storm Daniela in various regions, particularly the landslides it caused. This prompted the Scientific Research Authority to issue a statement warning of the dangers of floods. The statement noted: "The increase in soil collapses and road damage due to the current rain at elevations of 1,600 meters and below leads to the formation of floods. With the saturation of soil in the mountains and the ground under the roads with water, coupled with the expected low temperatures early next week that would turn the rainfall into snow at 1,200 meters, and considering the passage of cars and trucks on various roads like Dhahr al-Baydar and Tarshish, along with the absence of maintenance for years, these roads are threatened by further landslides, either from the soil on the sides or soil sliding beneath the roads, posing a risk to all vehicles. Authorities and security forces must monitor the situation and may have to prohibit traffic on these roads." A video showcasing the struggles of a resident in Qabbayat due to the landslides was shared on Abi Eli Khneisser's WhatsApp group.
