Death of Egyptian Poet and Visual Artist Magdy Naguib

The Egyptian Authors, Composers, and Publishers Association announced today, Wednesday, that the lyric poet and visual artist Magdy Naguib, whose poetry was celebrated by major singers, passed away at the age of 88. Naguib was born in 1936 in Cairo and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts. He published numerous poetry collections, including "Sahd Al-Shita," "Layali Al-Zaman Al-Mansi," "Mumkin," and "Al-Wasayya." His poems were sung by famous artists such as Abdel Halim Hafez, Shadia, Souad Mohammed, Fayza Ahmed, and Sherifa Fadel. He formed a successful duo in the 1980s and 1990s with singer Mohamed Mounir, who performed over 20 of his songs, including "Shababik," "Hawadit," "Saghir Al-Sinn," "Min Awal Lamssa," and "Leila." He contributed to writing songs for several films and series, such as the film "Mawlid Ya Donia," the film "Imra'a Fi Dammi," and the radio series "Dunya Bint Dunya." In the field of visual arts, he held many solo exhibitions, including "Asatir" and "Shababik," and critics dubbed him the "Poet of Colors."
