Flooding in Antelias and Rescue Efforts in Akkar Due to Rising River Levels

The heavy rains in Lebanon have led to flooding in the river at Antelias. The Civil Defense announced that "rescue teams are working in collaboration with units from the army deployed on the ground since the early hours of today to rescue citizens from inside their homes in the towns of Al-Kanisa, Hakar Al-Daher, and Al-Samaqiya in Akkar Governorate, due to water accumulation and rising river levels." Additionally, the Lebanese Red Cross announced in a statement that its teams successfully delivered aid this morning, comprised of 25 volunteers, to the town of Al-Samaqiya in Akkar, which was completely surrounded by water following the flooding of the South Great River since yesterday.

A help from the municipality was also provided yesterday to evacuate around 340 families of Syrian refugees to a nearby mosque and school. A team from the Red Cross initiated coordination with the governor's office to manage disaster response in the region. The Red Cross teams continue their response operations to provide essential aid to the affected families in the town and Syrian refugees.
