Platform "X" Revokes Blue Checkmark from Houthi Accounts and Leaders

Platform

The world's most popular social media platform "X" (formerly Twitter) has revoked the blue checkmark from the accounts of websites and leaders in the Houthi group, which is classified as an international terrorist organization by the United States. Among the mentioned accounts is the second-in-command of the group, Mohammed al-Houthi. Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar al-Eryani, welcomed the action by the management of "X", which includes the removal of the blue checkmark from the account of the "Al-Masirah" channel and several leaders of the Iran-backed Houthi militia, including the individual known as Yahya Saree, in preparation for its potential closure. He stated that this came "in response to government demands and the general Yemenis' calls to ban the content of those pages that have been exploited as platforms for terrorism, based on the Yemeni government's decision in 2022 to classify the Houthi group as a terrorist organization, and the U.S. administration's decision to designate it as a global terrorist group, to mitigate the threat posed by this group which exceeds that of all terrorist groups."
