Fayyad: Committed to Appointing the Regulatory Authority for the Electricity Sector

Minister of Energy and Water in the caretaker government, Walid Fayyad, participated in the third meeting of the heads of regulatory authorities in the Mediterranean region (Medreg), held in Rhodes, Greece, in the presence of the Director of Energy at the European Union, Kristina Lubillo-Porrero, and more than 15 heads of regulatory authorities from Mediterranean countries. Fayyad emphasized the importance of completing the reform and renewable energy development process in Lebanon, explaining: "Renewable energy, particularly solar energy, has seen significant growth in the past two years, with the Lebanese market achieving a record increase from approximately 100 megawatts at the beginning of 2021 to over 1,000 megawatts today, equating to about 900% growth." Minister Fayyad also requested support from the European Union to establish a twinning arrangement between Lebanon and one of the European regulatory authorities to transfer expertise and knowledge to the Lebanese side. He proposed hosting the next meeting of the Renewable Energy Working Group coinciding with the events of "Beirut Energy Week 2023," which will take place from September 20 to 22 and is expected to include over 800 participants from Lebanon and around the world.
