Union of Al-Diya: The Lira No Longer Holds Sovereignty in Our Markets

The "Al-Diya Union for the Unions of Workers and Employees of Beirut and Mount Lebanon" pointed out that "the living conditions for workers have become unbearable amidst the economic crisis and the collapse of their salaries and incomes, as the American dollar skyrockets to insane heights. The hasty decision to raise the customs dollar rate again from 15,000 lira to 45,000 lira will increase all prices, not just those of food products, medicines, and fuels, leading to a confirmed rise in inflation rates and the complete loss of any value of the national lira, which no longer holds any sovereignty in our markets following the decision to price in dollars and the disconnection of the Lebanese from their national currency."

In a statement, it expressed hope that "the government managing the American agenda in Lebanon would disappear and relieve the country from its worn-out administration that submits to the will of the Greater Satan's embassy, allowing the Lebanese people to manage their affairs without its legal oppression, which tramples on every field and transforms into support and protection for thieves and bandits to control this country."

The union called on "the honorable people of the country to take the initiative, launch a new phase in managing the Lebanese crisis, open avenues for solutions, and prioritize the logic of willingness for resolution over the logic of escalation, in order to save Lebanon and the Lebanese."
