The German Parliament has approved a bill aimed at decriminalizing the use and possession of cannabis (marijuana and hashish) in Germany and partially legalizing it. The bill received support from 407 representatives, opposed by 226, with four others abstaining from voting. The bill will later be put to a vote in the German Federal Council (Bundesrat). The legislation for the use of cannabis in Germany was prepared for submission to the European Commission in October 2022. The Health Minister at that time stated that this issue could be resolved by 2024. The German government presented plans for the legalization of cannabis and marijuana in April. Under the bill, consumers over the age of 18 will not face criminal charges for possessing up to 25 grams of cannabis and cultivating up to three plants.
