The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority announced today, Saturday, that an avalanche claimed the lives of at least 11 members of a nomadic tribe while they were crossing a mountainous area in northern Pakistan. The authority stated in a press release that the bodies of the victims have been recovered, adding that the injured, including a child, were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Adverse weather conditions hindered the rescue operations and made accessing the site difficult. Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated, "This type of incident is increasing in Pakistan due to the impact of climate change." Sharif urged the international community to take responsibility for assisting developing nations facing economic challenges due to the negative effects of climate change. In another avalanche that occurred last night, Friday, 13 others were injured in the Shaunter Top mountain pass. This pass is located at an altitude of 4,420 meters above sea level.
