Statistics from the "Gun Violence Archive" indicate that the number of mass shooting incidents in the United States this year has surpassed the figures of the past 10 years. The site noted that during the first 227 days of this year, there were 443 mass shooting incidents reported in 41 states and the District of Columbia. Authorities have also recorded 28 incidents of mass murder. By the same date in 2022, 414 mass shooting incidents and 19 mass murder occurrences were recorded. In 2021, there were 688 mass shootings, the highest figure in the past decade, with 433 mass shooting incidents and 18 mass murder incidents reported by mid-August.
The site confirmed that if the current rate of mass shootings continues at around two incidents per day, the country could see more than 700 similar crimes by the end of this year. It also pointed out that the annual number of mass shooting incidents, where more than four people are affected, has tripled over the past 10 years. The source noted that the past three years, under the Democratic administration led by President Joe Biden, may have been the worst in these statistics.
It was mentioned that combating the "epidemic of gun violence" is officially a declared priority for the Biden administration, but there has been no significant progress in this effort. So far this year, more than 11,000 people, including around 1,100 children and teenagers, have lost their lives in the United States due to firearms.
