Iraqi Communication Minister Hayam Al-Yasiri signed a memorandum of understanding today, Wednesday, with Syrian Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammad Samer Al-Khalil, focusing on cooperation in communications, information technology, and postal services. According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Communications, the agreement was signed under the auspices of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani during the meetings of the Iraqi-Syrian committee.
The memorandum includes collaboration in the fields of communications, information technology, and postal exchange between the two countries. The statement added that the memorandum emphasized joint coordination between the Iraqi Ministry of Communications and the Syrian Ministry of Economy to encourage international links, interconnection procedures, and postal services. It also included plans to implement an international fiber optic cable route across the borders of both countries to exchange telecommunication traffic and coordinate efforts to control digital content and mitigate cyber threats.
Furthermore, both parties agreed to establish joint technical committees to oversee the implementation of cooperation areas and prepare specific executive programs. The Communications Minister stressed the importance of collaboration between the two countries in communications and information technology, highlighting that this agreement will contribute to improving services provided to citizens in both nations.
