The defense ministries of Armenia and Azerbaijan issued statements on Tuesday afternoon, mentioning that an unknown number of their soldiers were killed in clashes and gunfire near the Lachin corridor in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. The Armenian defense ministry stated, "Azerbaijani forces began firing around 4 PM (12:00 PM GMT) on Armenian troops who were conducting engineering work near the village of Tegh in Syunik province, southern Armenia." It added that its forces took "countermeasures." It is worth mentioning that the village of Tegh is not located in the disputed area but is the last village in Armenian territory on the main road connecting Armenia to the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The Azerbaijani defense ministry reported that its forces were subjected to "heavy gunfire" from Armenian troops stationed in Syunik province.
