An Israeli Delegation Returns to Cairo: What is the Fate of the Prisoner Exchange Deal?

Following the "massacre" that struck Rashid Street in northern Gaza, where Israeli forces opened fire on civilians waiting for aid trucks at Al-Nabulsi Square, resulting in the death of over 100 and the injury of dozens, uncertainty surrounds the negotiations ongoing through intermediaries between Hamas and Israel. The movement has threatened to cease any talks if Israeli violations continue. However, Israeli sources confirmed today, Friday, that an Israeli delegation visited Egypt this week to discuss details of a potential prisoner exchange deal between the two sides and will return to Cairo next week for further talks, as reported by the "Times of Israel."

The delegation reportedly submitted to Egypt a list of names of Palestinian security prisoners that Israel is not willing to release in the event of an agreement with Hamas. An Arab source familiar with the negotiation details previously revealed that talks are ongoing in Qatar to discuss the precise details of finalizing the deal in the coming days, despite some obstacles. The source noted that the points currently under discussion relate to identifying the names of Palestinian detainees to be released as well as the names of the Israeli captives.

Recent rounds of talks regarding the anticipated deal or a ceasefire agreement in Gaza between the two sides have not recorded any major breakthroughs, despite slight progress.
