The Somali Parliament has approved the amendment to the country's constitution by a majority vote, following several sessions of discussion. According to the Somali News Agency, the Speaker of the Somali Parliament, Sheikh Adam Mohamed Noor, stated that 254 out of 275 members of Parliament voted in favor of the constitutional amendment. The agency noted that among the key provisions amended in the constitution is the stipulation that the President of the Republic shall be elected by the people, who will also appoint and dismiss the Prime Minister.
