Title: Security Official: At Least 8 Killed in Explosion at Oil Facility in Guinea

A senior police officer in Guinea stated that at least eight people were killed and 84 injured due to an explosion at an oil facility in the capital, Conakry, early this morning. He added that the numbers of casualties and injuries are preliminary and indicated that the fire had been contained. A witness told Reuters that the explosion, which occurred at Guinea's only main oil storage and loading platform, shook the Kaloum administrative area in central Conakry, shattering windows in several nearby homes and forcing hundreds to flee the area. A large fire and black smoke were seen rising from several miles away as firefighters rushed to the scene, and many fuel trucks left the explosion site quickly, accompanied by soldiers and police. A government spokesperson from Guinea has not yet responded to a request for comment.
