Algeria: Bust of a Criminal Smuggling Network

The Research and Intervention Unit in Tamanrasset, southern Algeria, succeeded in dismantling an organized criminal network consisting of five individuals, seizing 208.5 kg of processed cannabis, along with the confiscation of a truck and a passenger vehicle. The Research and Intervention Unit stated that the operation occurred following information about the existence of a criminal group preparing to transport a shipment of processed cannabis from Tamanrasset to one of the northern states. It added that after the investigation carried out by the unit’s investigators under the supervision of the local prosecutor, the suspects were arrested. It was indicated that the quantity of processed cannabis was found in a secret hideout prepared in the trailer of the truck. The suspects have been presented before the public prosecutor at the Tamanrasset Court.
