The Mauritanian Football Federation announced today, Saturday, the death of national team and Customs Club goalkeeper, Mohamed Mokhtar, at the age of 22. The federation stated in a release: "With hearts filled with sadness and sorrow, the Mauritanian Football Federation mourns the young goalkeeper of the national team and Customs Club, Mohamed Mokhtar, who passed away this morning in Nouakchott."
The young departed was known for his great love for his country, along with his talent, commitment, and discipline, making him an example among his peers for dedication to work, professional commitment, high ethics, and great respect. Despite his young age, he quickly progressed from being a goalkeeper for our youth team to the under-20 and under-23 teams, eventually making it to the first national team roster. Reports from Mauritania indicated that goalkeeper Mohamed Mokhtar suffered a serious injury during training with his club, Customs, about a week ago, and was subsequently taken to the hospital before passing away.
