Israeli tanks are making their way and continuing to advance into and around the city of Khan Younis today, Monday, where they are facing resistance amidst heavy fighting in a war that has entered its third month without an end in sight. The fighting in Khan Younis, the main city in southern Gaza, is home to approximately 626,000 people, including many displaced from the north due to Israeli bombing, as Israel refocuses its war efforts in the south. Amid reports from the World Health Organization about a "catastrophic" health situation in Gaza, Palestinian activists have called for a global strike today as part of coordinated efforts to pressure Israel to cease fire. One of the calls stated, "It's time for a comprehensive worldwide strike." However, it remains unclear whether these efforts will garner global support or have any impact on Israeli war plans. Diplomats stated yesterday, Sunday, that the United Nations General Assembly, which includes 193 members, is likely to vote tomorrow, Tuesday, on a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire. The United States vetoed a draft resolution in the UN Security Council on Friday that called for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.
