Iraq: Destruction of Over 12 Kilograms of Drugs

The Ministry of Health announced today, Thursday, the destruction of over 12 kilograms of drugs and nearly 560,000 pills of psychoactive substances at the forensic medicine department in Baghdad.

According to a statement from the ministry, "under the supervision and follow-up of Minister of Health Saleh Mahdi Al-Hussanawi, head of the National Supreme Commission for Drug Control and Psychoactive Substances, and in the presence of the head of the destruction committee, Judge Suhaib Dhaam Al-Ma'adi, and the director of the follow-up department for the National Supreme Commission for Drug Control and Psychoactive Substances in the Ministry of Health, Iyad Hassan Al-Tamimi, and all members of the specialized committee, the Ministry of Health continues to destroy new quantities of seized drugs according to the law and stored in the forensic medicine department in the capital, Baghdad."

The head of the Drug and Psychoactive Substances Destruction Committee stated, according to the statement: "More than 12 kilograms of drugs and approximately 560,000 pills of psychoactive substances have been destroyed in the forensic medicine department in Baghdad, which had previously been seized according to legal reports."

He added, "They were burned, and a technical examination was conducted after the burning to ensure the destruction process."
