The Biden administration announced today, Thursday, the addition of 14 Chinese companies to the list of companies whose activities are not verified, forcing American exporters to enhance due diligence measures before shipping goods to these companies, as U.S. officials have been unable to inspect them. U.S. Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves stated in a release following the announcement, "Our export controls are an important part of protecting U.S. national security... We are committed to using all available tools to understand how advanced U.S. technology is used around the world." Adding these companies to the list means a 60-day export ban, which may be followed by stricter penalties. Ecom International and P&W Industries, registered in Hong Kong, are among the entities added to the list, and neither company nor the Chinese embassy in Washington has yet responded to requests for comment. The United States has used restrictions on the export of American goods as a key tool to thwart Beijing's technological advancement, leading to escalating tensions between the two countries.
