A medical source at the Sayyida Zainab hospital in Syria announced today, Thursday, that 6 people were killed and 23 others were injured due to an explosion in the Sayyida Zainab neighborhood of rural Damascus (Al-Kou’a Sudan Street) following the detonation of a motorcycle near a "Saba" taxi. A correspondent for Syrian television stated that information from relevant authorities indicated that the perpetrator of the attack "had sent a wireless signal to the explosive device after parking the motorcycle, leading to the explosion shortly after." The Ministry of Interior released a statement via its Telegram channel indicating that patrols from the Sayyida Zainab police, the criminal security branch in rural Damascus, as well as the rural Damascus fire brigade and ambulance service, arrived at the explosion site, along with the governor of rural Damascus and the police chief, and the bodies of the victims and the injured were transferred to hospitals in Damascus and its outskirts. A resident of the area told Reuters that he heard a loud explosion around 5:30 PM (14:30 GMT) and that security forces subsequently closed off the area. Earlier in the week, two people were injured in another explosion outside the shrine that attracts visitors commemorating a Shia occasion.
