Moroccan authorities reported today, Wednesday, that they "recovered the bodies of eight individuals who drowned in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of the Nador region while attempting to migrate illegally to Europe, and rescued nine others." They added that "search operations are ongoing to locate possible missing persons." A statement published by the Maghreb Arab Press indicated that "the victims were part of a group of irregular migrants who boarded an inflatable boat in an attempt to cross the sea... before the boat capsized due to adverse weather conditions, which included strong winds and high waves." It was stated that "the group departed from the Charana-Boumhdi area in the city of Beni Cheker, which is located about 379 kilometers northeast of Rabat."
