Denmark Allocates $400 Million for Arctic Surveillance

Denmark has allocated 2.74 billion kroner ($400 million) to enhance surveillance operations in the Arctic and the North Atlantic using long-range drones as part of a broader framework agreement to bolster its defense capabilities and meet NATO objectives. The long-range drones will aid in monitoring the increasing civil and military activity in the Arctic and North Atlantic, ensuring Denmark's ability to comply with NATO goals. The shrinking ice cover in the Arctic has intensified competition among global powers for control over resources and waterways. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated late Thursday, "The Kingdom of Denmark must take greater responsibility in enhancing security for the entire region, which means we need to employ more defensive capabilities in the Arctic and North Atlantic."
