Jordan: Air Force Did Not Participate in US Airstrikes in Iraq

Jordan: The Jordanian Royal Air Force did not participate in the airstrikes carried out by the US Air Force last night on several targets inside Iraqi territory, confirmed a military source in the general command of the Jordanian Armed Forces on Saturday. The source stated, "The Jordanian army respects the sovereignty of Iraq," according to the official Jordanian news agency (Petra).

This statement came after the United States announced on Friday that it successfully executed retaliatory strikes targeting Iranian forces and groups affiliated with Tehran in both Iraq and Syria in response to an attack on Jordan last week. Some information indicated that F-16 fighter jets belonging to the Jordanian Air Force participated in the US-led airstrikes last night.

It was suggested that this might have been a response to the drone attack that occurred against a US base on the Jordanian border, referred to as "Tower 22," in late January. Reports also indicated that Jordanian aircraft joined after targets were designated for them, according to the Wall Street Journal.

It was reported that Jordan's role was aimed at demonstrating solidarity with the United States following the drone strike on Tower 22, which is a military site in Jordan near the Syrian border. The US Central Command had announced at the end of January that three US servicemen were killed and more than 40 were injured at Tower 22, noting that around 350 service members from the US Army and Air Force are stationed at the base and are executing several key support missions, including assisting coalition forces against ISIS.
