Indonesia Delays Purchase of Used Fighter Jets

The spokesperson for Indonesian Defense Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak indicated today, Wednesday, that "the government has postponed the purchase of 12 used Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets, previously acquired by Qatar, due to limited financial capabilities." The spokesperson made the remarks in an interview with TV One earlier this week, stating that "the delay was decided by the Ministries of Defense and Finance." He added, "The government delayed the aircraft purchase because our financial capacity at the moment does not allow for completing the deal," noting that "the military will focus on upgrading its current Sukhoi and F-16 aircraft."
