Cairo University President Sentenced to Six Months in Prison and Removed from Position

A Heliopolis misdemeanor court ruled today, Monday, to imprison Dr. Mohamed Osman El-Khosht, President of Cairo University, Dr. Samah Abdel Fattah, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Secretary-General of the Faculty of Agriculture for six months and to impose a bail of 1,000 Egyptian pounds each for their failure to disburse overdue financial entitlements to certain university employees. Some employees at Cairo University had filed a direct misdemeanor complaint against the university president, the dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and the secretary-general of the faculty, which was referred to the Heliopolis misdemeanor court. The first session was scheduled for February 22, and the case was reserved for ruling on February 29. The defendants attended the hearing, and the court issued its ruling against them.
