The Alpine team, owned by Renault, indicated on Wednesday that it has "changed almost everything except the steering wheel," becoming the first competitor in the Formula 1 World Championship to unveil its new car for 2024, rather than simply presenting a new design or showing it digitally. Alpine finished last season in sixth place overall, dropping two positions from its previous ranking, with the French duo of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. The team will again race with two distinct designs this season, with a dominant pink color on the A521 car during the first eight races to reflect the sponsor's (BWT) colors before returning to Alpine's familiar blue.
In the initial presentation of the car at the team's Enstone factory, Technical Director Matt Harman stated, "We decided to take this very bold approach. It’s a completely new car from front to back. I think the steering wheel is the only thing that survived (this overhaul)." He added, "We really tried to look at every part of the car to make sure we didn't leave anything unchanged, giving ourselves a car that has the potential to perform throughout the year."
