Dina: My Son Hates Art Because He Saw Me Struggling

The artist Dina talked about her experience raising her only son alone after the death of his father, director Samah El-Bagouri, noting that the phrase "a woman raises her child alone" is not derogatory as some may think. She said: "All homes in Egypt are raised by a woman; no matter if there is a man in the house, he is at work all day and returns late at night, he does not raise the child. All of Egypt is raised by women," according to her statements on the "Al-Nahar" channel.

She added: "I am a very strict mother, my son is not spoiled, and I did not put him on the path to be spoiled. I made him rely on himself because I rely on myself until today, and I didn’t do things for him, I did them for myself, and he should do for himself."

Regarding his desire to pursue a career in art despite both parents being artists, Dina said: "He has a wonderful musical ear; when I dance with him, he executes the steps in 3 seconds, but he does not like working in art, and I'm the reason. He saw how much I struggle, so he told me, 'No, no, I want to work in something that is 5 days a week and 2 days off.'"
