Social media users in Senegal have been questioning who will hold the title of First Lady in Senegal after opposition candidate Basirou Fay won the presidential elections while having two wives. The new Senegalese president, 44 years old, hails from the town of Mbour in the west of the country. He was one of the youngest among the 19 candidates in the elections.
Basirou Fay is the first Senegalese president to enter the palace with two wives, despite polygamy being widespread in Senegal to the extent that it grants social status to men in this African country's traditions.
Which of the two wives will hold the title? Posts on social media have been pouring in with this question, some carrying a tone of sarcasm, while others consider it a second success added to Basirou Fay's electoral victory. Cindy Krani asked on her account on the platform "X": "The record has been broken; the elected president of Senegal has two wives.. the question is: who will be the First Lady?"
