From fine dining to the edge of space: Chef Rasmus Monk is attempting a bold feat with his plans to host a luxurious dinner in the atmosphere in 2025, taking Danish culinary art to new heights, as announced by his restaurant on Thursday.
The two-Michelin-starred restaurant "Alchemist" stated, "The exploratory journey will be conducted aboard the Neptune spacecraft operated by Space Perspective, where six passengers will redefine the art of dining by enjoying a meal of a lifetime while observing the sunrise over the curve of our planet."
This establishment is part of the new Danish culinary scene that has emerged in the past two decades and has been praised worldwide for its numerous innovations.
For $495,000, six tourists will embark on a six-hour journey in a pressurized space capsule, rising to the stratosphere at an altitude of 30 kilometers above sea level with the help of a hydrogen-powered "SpaceBalloon."
Rasmus Monk, 32, who has a passion for space, will be part of the trip. Monk promised a menu inspired by "the role of space exploration over the past six decades of human history and the impact it has had on our society, both scientifically and philosophically."
A key restriction during this journey is that cooking food over an open flame is not permitted. The "Alchemist," which ranked fifth in the 2023 World's Best 50 Restaurants list, mentioned that many items will be prepared in the ship's kitchen from which the capsule will launch.
