6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes New Britain in Papua New Guinea

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the New Britain region in Papua New Guinea on Monday. The centre noted that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 79 kilometers. Papua New Guinea is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is a horseshoe-shaped zone of volcanoes and fault lines surrounding the edges of the ocean.
