Mexico: Disappearance of Investigators Looking into the Case of 43 Missing Students

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the disappearance of two investigators working on the case of 43 students who have been missing for nearly 10 years in the state of Guerrero, located on the Pacific coast. Obrador stated that search efforts have been launched to find the federal investigators, a man and a woman, expressing hope that "their disappearance is not related to those who do not want us to find the youth." Later, officials reported that the investigators were found safe, without revealing whether they had been released from captivity. The incidents of disappearances mark another sign of the general collapse of law and order in Guerrero. The missing 43 students are believed to have been killed and burned by drug trafficking gang members. The investigators were part of a years-long effort to locate the remains of the students. López Obrador did not specify when the investigators disappeared.
