The Palestino Club, playing in the Chilean Primera División and founded by Palestinian immigrants in 1920, presented a team jersey to Palestinian journalist Wael Dahdouh. Palestino stated on their Instagram account: "The famous Palestinian journalist Wael Dahdouh received our team jersey featuring the historical map of Palestine." They added: "Wael is the Al Jazeera bureau chief in the Gaza Strip. His wife and children were killed in the recent Israeli attacks on the Al-Nuseirat camp. Thank you, Wael, for your bravery and perseverance in your coverage."
The logo of Palestino Club features the colors of the Palestinian flag, and it is estimated that over 500,000 Palestinians live in Chile. It is noted that Palestino has won the Chilean league title twice in its 103-year history and the Chilean Cup three times, most recently in 2018. In 2014, the club was penalized by the Chilean Football Federation for altering the back of the players' jerseys to resemble Palestinian territories, which is the same map featured on the jersey gifted to Wael Dahdouh.
