Explosion in Michigan Claims Four Lives

U.S. police announced that four people were killed and two others injured in a house explosion in Michigan, the sound of which could be heard miles away. The explosion occurred before 4 PM in Northfield Township, approximately 45 miles (72.4 kilometers) west of Detroit. Lieutenant David Paul of the Northfield Township Police told reporters that the building was destroyed, leaving only the basement intact.

The explosion, which could be heard from about 9 miles (14.4 kilometers) away, scattered debris into the air that fell on both sides of a nearby highway. Paul stated that neighboring houses were not damaged.

There were six people in the house at the time, with four fatalities confirmed at the scene and the remaining two victims transported to the hospital in critical condition. Paul noted that police did not immediately know if there was any familial relationship among the victims, and authorities have not yet determined the cause of the explosion. The Northfield Township Police did not immediately respond to an Associated Press request for additional information about the explosion on Sunday.
