Iraqi Parliament Seeks Second Round to Resume Election of its President

The Iraqi Parliament decided today, Saturday, to resume its session after half an hour. The media department of the Parliament stated in a statement that "the Parliament decided to resume its session after half an hour." It added that "the number of signatories is 341, the number of voters is 341, and the number of ballot papers is 341."

It pointed out that "the candidates for the position of Speaker of the Council are:

- Deputy Salem Al-Essawi (97 votes)

- Deputy Shalaan Al-Karim (152 votes)

- Deputy Talal Al-Zubai (1 vote)

- Deputy Amer Abdul Jabbar (6 votes)

- Deputy Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani (48 votes)

- Invalid ballots (10)."

Earlier today, the media department of the Parliament announced the end of the voting process for electing the Speaker of the Council and the commencement of counting and sorting. The first Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mundelawi, opened the nomination for the position of Speaker today. A statement from the media department of the Parliament noted that "the candidates for the position are: Salem Al-Essawi, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Shalaan Al-Karim, Talal Al-Zubai, Abdul Rahim Al-Shammari (withdrawal request submitted), and Amer Abdul Jabbar."
