The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced today, Sunday, the formation of a crisis cell specialized in floods and disasters. It stated in a statement that "Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari chaired a meeting of the Supreme Civil Defense Committee, attended by governors via video conference, as they serve as heads of the sub-committee in the provinces. During this meeting, an overview of the current situation of their provinces concerning floods and inundations was discussed." The minister emphasized the importance of supporting and assisting the Civil Defense Directorate and ensuring a rapid response to any emergencies. The meeting also resulted in the establishment of a crisis cell specialized in floods and disasters.
Al-Shammari stated, according to the statement, that "the duties of civil defense are very important," noting that the establishment of the National Disaster Management Center is to organize the response to disasters and crises. He stressed the need for relevant authorities to be prepared for any emergencies in all provinces. He added that "the ministry is keen on developing the work of civil defense, especially after completing one hundred small civil defense centers and establishing a civil defense institute, in addition to moving forward with automation and establishing a rapid response center," directing optimal preparation for all incidents and completing the requirements related to this matter.
