After four years away from artistic work, Egyptian artist Samira Mohsen announced her retirement from acting and her commitment to teaching at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts. In a phone interview with a local program, Samira Mohsen revealed her reasons for retiring, noting that current filming hours can reach up to 18 hours a day, making it difficult for an artist to be creative when exhausted. In some productions, she receives 5 episodes out of a total of 30, leaving her unclear about the beginning, middle, and end of the project she is involved in. Thus, she decided to step back and focus on teaching.
The artist, who has presented over 150 artistic works, emphasized that an artist should retire at a time of their own choosing to prevent reaching a stage where they find themselves at home without work and not in demand in the market. She pointed out that an artist must take a stand and decide to stop while they are still esteemed, to allow a new generation the opportunity to continue the journey, considering that art has given her ample opportunity after starring in theatrical roles, participating in cinematic works, and appearing in television series, leading her to state, "I've done everything."
The Egyptian artist made a striking statement, saying, "The older an artist gets, the less valuable they become... whereas a university professor becomes more valuable with age," affirming that the system in Egypt differs from Hollywood, saying, "Here, the aging artist is shot down like a horse."
In conclusion, Samira Mohsen affirmed that an artist should possess dignity in their later years, indicating that the generation with which she began was marked by mutual affection, especially since she started her career alongside major stars like Shadia.
