Indian police reported on Wednesday that four people have died and two others were injured following a landslide at an iron ore mine in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh state in central India. NMDC, the largest government mining company in India, stated in a release that "four people have died due to the landslide." It added that two contracted workers were injured and are receiving treatment at the company hospital, where they are now in good condition. The landslide was described as "unexpected," and an investigation is underway. Gorav Rai, a senior police officer in Dantewada, told Reuters that the workers were employed by Larsen & Toubro. NMDC did not clarify whether the workers were indeed employees of Larsen & Toubro. Larsen & Toubro did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
