Geometric Question for Students at a Yemeni University Causes Confusion... What Is It?

Inspired by the attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea, it seems that teachers at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ibb in Yemen have derived exam questions. Many Yemenis have shared a picture of an exam that includes a question directed at civil engineering students. The question, part of the end-of-term exam for the college controlled by the Houthis, described soldiers positioned on land to launch missiles at a ship in the Red Sea, with a mountain in between and its face being triangular.

Would they hit the ship? The question provided students with the necessary numbers to perform their calculations, asking them to scientifically and numerically determine whether the soldiers would hit the ship or not. This raised eyebrows among many Yemenis on social media, who expressed their discontent with the "militarization" of education, even in Yemen. Others downplayed the issue, considering it merely a physical calculation involving missiles.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, tensions have extended to several fronts and arenas, from Lebanon to Iraq and Syria, reaching Yemen where the Houthis are located. The Iran-backed group has launched dozens of missile and drone attacks against commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea, raising concerns in the international community about the escalation of conflict and the impact on the safety of navigation in this crucial global waterway.
