The president of the Parisian region stated today, Tuesday, that the prices of Paris Metro tickets will nearly double during the 2024 Olympic Games. She added that local residents holding monthly or annual passes will be protected from this temporary increase, with a "fair price" imposed on visitors. Last week, the Mayor of Paris warned that public transportation services provided by the regional authority would not be sufficient during the Olympics. The games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
Regional president Valérie Pécresse said on social media, "During the Olympics, both for the able-bodied and those with disabilities, the Île-de-France region will significantly increase its transportation offerings. It is out of the question for local residents to support this cost." Pécresse also mentioned in a video, "We will launch a new pass, the Paris 2024 pass, which will allow visitors to travel throughout the Île-de-France region. It will cost 16 euros per day and about 70 euros per week. It is a fair price." The usual monthly ticket price is 84.10 euros.
