Sailors' Union Responds to Distress Call Off the Port of Tripoli

The Secretary-General of the Maritime Transport Union and Head of the Maritime Crew Union, Captain Nasser Nazzal, received a distress call from sailors on board the "Jani" ship, anchored offshore near Tripoli. The vessel has a crew of eight sailors with Egyptian and Syrian nationality, who were abandoned by the ship's owner (A.S.) without the necessary supplies to operate the ship, food, water, or living essentials for the crew, violating international maritime laws.

Immediately, communication was established with the regional office of the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF), which took the initiative to provide the necessary financial supplies to secure the required needs. These supplies were entrusted to the ship's marine agent in Tripoli, Jihad Al-Shoubki, who began coordinating with Captain Nazzal to prepare the necessary items to be delivered to the sailors of the "Jani" today at sea.

Legal and administrative measures have also been taken in collaboration with the ITF to rectify the situation according to the provisions of international navigation law.
