Ukraine Investigates Over 122,000 Potential War Crimes

Ukrainian Attorney General Andriy Kostin reported today, Friday, that Kyiv has started investigations into over 122,000 suspected war crimes since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion nearly two years ago. Kostin stated in an interview with Reuters at an international criminal law conference in Berlin, "We have already identified 511 perpetrators. There have been 80 convictions so far in Ukrainian courts, most of which were in absentia." Kostin noted that the number of suspected war crimes is expected to increase, saying, "One reason could be that Russia still feels it will evade punishment." He indicated that international community support is needed to document, investigate, and prosecute war crimes, but added that "more than 99 percent of all cases will be investigated and prosecuted in Ukraine."
