Did Egyptians Fast an Extra Day in Ramadan?

The head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt, Taha Rabih, revealed the truth behind rumors circulating on social media that Egyptians fasted an extra day this year. He denied these claims in statements to the Egyptian website "Cairo 24," affirming that astronomers at the institute captured an image of the crescent moon which was one day old. He emphasized that we should trust the words of scientists rather than public opinion. Dr. Taha Rabih stated that the crescent was photographed about an hour ago on Wednesday evening, confirming that the holy month concluded on schedule and that the fasting of Egyptians was complete without any additional days. He added that the duration of the crescent moon's visibility after sunset today was two hours and nine minutes, noting that this thickness in the crescent is very normal and typical.
