The shipping company "Maersk" announced today, Friday, that it is too early to resume transit through the Red Sea due to the continued high level of risks, despite the European Union's initiative to enhance safety in the region. Maersk, one of the largest container shipping companies in the world, suspended traffic in the Red Sea on January 5 and rerouted to the Cape of Good Hope. Maersk stated on its website that it is aware of other shipping companies that have continued to transit the Red Sea or announced plans to resume sailing there. It added, "We still maintain our assessment that the current situation does not allow us to make a similar decision. We still believe that sailing via the Cape of Good Hope and around Africa is the most logical solution now and currently allows for the best stability in the supply chain." The European Union's maritime mission in the southern Red Sea began in February to help protect the main maritime trade route from drone and missile attacks launched by the Houthis.
