The Arab League has called for enhancing Arab cooperation and exchanging expertise in blood transfusion services and its derivatives, in order to benefit from Arab experiences in this field. The Social Affairs Sector of the Arab League, on the occasion of "Arab Blood Donor Day for 2024," stated in a statement that the Arab Health Ministers Council established the Arab Blood Transfusion Services Authority in 1979 "believing in the importance of Arab coordination in blood transfusion services, and the agenda item of the Arab Blood Transfusion Services Authority is a permanent item on the agenda of the Arab Health Ministers Council." The statement clarified that one of the main objectives of the Arab Blood Transfusion Services Authority is "to stimulate voluntary blood donation, urging member states on the importance of providing necessary tests to ensure the safety and security of blood in Arab countries, and enhancing communication channels with global organizations and institutions specialized in blood transfusion and its derivatives." It called for "the necessity of training personnel working in the blood transfusion sector in Arab countries as needed, holding scientific conferences and workshops related to blood transfusion, and urging Arab countries to obtain Arab and global accreditations in the field of blood transfusion."
